Colleen Laliberte
has been working as a teaching artist for the past nineteen
years.
She has conducted school residencies throughout the
US, and her international residencies include Sweden,
Austria, and Canada. Colleen has served as a Guest Master
Teaching Artist for the Tennessee Arts Academy, the
Alabama Institute for Education in Theatre, the International
Network of Performing Arts and Magnet Schools, The Alabama
Shakespeare Festival and too many school systems to
name here. As founding Director of Skwalking Heads Production
Co., she has directed and co-created theatrical experiences
for audiences of all ages. She has been the recipient
of Arts Build Chattanooga Neighborhoods Grants for four
years, and was artist in residence for the Partnership
in After School Education initiative sponsored by the
Public Education Foundation.
Theatre, Storytelling, and Puppetry
Colleen’s programs in Theatre, Storytelling and
Puppetry engage students in exploring literature and
language in a dramatic way. Her interactive storytelling
residencies:
Involve students in a theatrical experience complete
with costumes, props, music and scenery.
Transport Teachers and students on an imaginative journey,
as they become the characters in the stories, creating
dialogue, movement and scenic elements for each story
used in the residency.
Foster group cooperation, collaborative problem solving,
and story analysis
Students make connections to Literature, History, Social
Studies and Science.

Professional Development Workshops :
Colleen has an extensive background in designing and
facilitating workshops for teachers and community leaders
to introduce effective Drama, Storytelling and Puppetry
techniques. Workshops provide hands on experiences in
designing and implementing arts based lesson plans to
connect curriculum units of study to dynamic and fun
theatre experiences in the classroom. Examples of workshops:
Puppet Power in the classroom
Teachers will participate in an interactive storytelling
session followed by hands on puppet building
It’s in the bag! A traveling trunk of treasures
Colleen will bring a treasure trunk to your classroom
filled with stories, costumes and props, ready to get
your Classroom Theatre up and running!
Workshops can be custom designed to suit individual
school community needs.
TheatreSports™ for Teachers and Students
Colleen has studied with Keith Johnstone , creator of
TheatreSports ™, since 1993. She recently returns
from The Loose Moose International Improv School in
Calgary Alberta Canada.
This residency provides a hands-on approach to improvisational
acting through theatre games. TheatreSports™ fosters
creative thinking, enhances teamwork and builds your
classroom community by placing students in an exciting
“win-win” learning format. Students and
teachers will learn the basic foundations of improvisation,
which will enable them to communicate effectively in
the classroom, on the playground and at home!
This residency can last days or weeks! Students participating
in the TheatreSports™ residencies will be invited
to participate in the Skwalking Heads ImprovStock Festival. (View
